Nam-Kook Kim

Dr. Nam-Kook Kim is a professor in the Department of Political Science and Int’l Relations at Korea University. He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Seoul National University, studied at the University of Oxford in the UK, and received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago in the USA. His teaching and research focus primarily on modern political philosophy, European politics, politics and law, human rights, democracy, public diplomacy, and human security. He has served as President of the Korean Political Science Association (2021), President of the Korean Society for Contemporary European Studies (2017), Editor-in-Chief of European Studies, Editor-in-Chief of the Korean Political Science Review, and Executive Committee Chair of the World Congress for Korean Politics and Society (2013). He has also been a visiting scholar at the University of California, Irvine; a visiting professor at the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in France; and an ASEM-DUO Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. He has received the Academic Award from the Korean Political Science Association (2020, 2011) and from the Korean Association of European Studies (2011). He has been appointed as a Jean Monnet Chair Professor by the European Union (2011–present) and has been listed continuously in Marquis Who’s Who in the World since 2014. He also served as an advisory member for the Seoul Metropolitan Government (2018–2020) and Gyeonggi Provincial Government (2022–2024). His major publications include Routledge Handbook of Europe-Korea Relations (2022), Culture and Democracy (2019), European Historical Reconciliation and Regional Cooperation (2019), and Multicultural Challenges and Sustainable Democracy in Europe and Asia (2014). His notable articles include “The Scope and Limits of Freedom of Expression in a Multicultural Society,” “Cultural Rights and Universal Human Rights,” and “Asia of Citizens beyond Asia of States.

Jongkun Choi

Professor of Political Science and International Studies at Yonsei University. He earned his B.A. from the University of Rochester, an M.A. in Political Science from Yonsei University, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from The Ohio State University. During the Moon Jae-in administration, he served as Secretary for Peace and Arms Control and later as Secretary for Peace Planning at the Blue House National Security Office, before being appointed as the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs. He participated in the inter-Korean summits held at Panmunjom in April 2018 and in Pyongyang in September 2018. He also negotiated the release of a tanker-ship seized by the Iranian Revolution Guard Corps in 2021. After completing his public service, he returned to Yonsei University in May 2022. In 2024, he also served as Global Chair Professor at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. His major works include The Power of Peace, The Power of the Constitution, the Path of Diplomacy, and From the Periphery to the Center, co-authored with former President Moon Jae-in. He has also published numerous articles in leading international journals.
